Discipling with Joy!

Discipling with joy! & jumping with

Jesus was the ultimate disciple maker! If we want to fulfill his command to go make disciples of all nations we should always look to him. In Luke 10, Jesus sent out 72 disciples to go ahead to the towns where Jesus was to go. They came back filled with joy and rejoicing at all the miracles they saw.

In verse 21 it talks about Jesus’ reaction to them arriving back with good news,

Luke 10:21 NIV At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

The word used for joy here, is different to the normal word used for joy. This words means to literally jump for joy! Jesus was so overfilled with joy, crazy with joy, that he was literally jumping up and down! Jesus rejoices every time we his disciples are advancing. He celebrates with us when we move forward.

This should be our heart when it comes to discipleship, it should be a joyful process!

  • When we share Jesus with someone and they decide to believe in him.
  • When we teach a brand new Christian how to pray and how to journal from the Bible.
  • When a new Christian decides to commit to living in purity.
  • When someone decides to join a serving team for the first time.

We should be rejoicing! Overfilled with joy, because they are moving forward with Jesus.

I believe that discipleship shouldn’t be a heavy, hard, high pressure journey.
Of course there will be times of pressure and tough situations and we need to be there for people then also, coaching them towards Jesus. However if the discipleship process is constantly filled with hardness and pressure we are doing something wrong.
Especially if there is no joy!

Discipleship is all about coaching people to be more like Jesus and there is nothing more rewarding than that. Seeing people become more like Jesus should fill us with joy, it should be exciting and fun!

How is your discipleship and coaching going? Is it tough and hard?
Or are you discipling like Jesus? Where coaching people is exciting, fun and full of joy!

Let’s change and make disciples like Jesus!

Rod.
